Introduction

This guide will show you how to correctly export a document from Adobe Illustrator to be printed, and also how to flatten the layers within Adobe Illustrator before printing.

  1. Illustrator by default has an export option ticked when exporting to PDF.
    • Illustrator by default has an export option ticked when exporting to PDF.

    • This is called Create Acrobat Layers from Top-Level Layers

    • This should be unticked accordingly.

    • Note that the preset now shows that it has been modified.

    • Alternatively, exporting as High Quality Print or other similar presets will untick this option for you.

  2. To flatten the layers in Illustrator, you can select the layers button on the right hand side.

  3. Use the dropdown button (the one next to the >> arrows) and from there you can select Flatten Artwork

    • This will flatten the layers into one layer which should make printing easier.
